Reptiles & Amphibians

Our region has its share of the state’s 284 taxa (kinds)) of reptiles and amphibians. The study of these animals is herpetology, and the animals themselves are called herps. Most are harmless, but some should be admired from a distance, like the American alligator or the venomous species.
